Lydia's practice centres on painting, but she also dabbles with a variety of media such as photography and video both to inform her painting and sometimes as the final outcome. Drawing, with graphite, charcoal, paint, whatever else comes to hand; to prepare, to understand, to see better, is a fundamental part of her process.
Like many contemporary painters - Lydia works mainly from photographs: taken; found; borrowed; edited. The ways in which photography informs and affects modern artists is a continuing interest. This is countered by a curiosity and exploration of the paint itself, and a desire to allow the freedom and playfulness of the substance have a presence.
Lydia graduated from Kent Institute of Art and Design, Canterbury (now UCA) in 2004 with a BA (hons) in Fine Art, and is currently based in Kent, UK.
